Scottish Water selects 2Go to deliver Citrix replacement

2GoCloud

In the current financial circumstances many clients are starting to consider what to do about their Citrix implementations and Scottish Water are an excellent example.

Scottish Water is transforming its field operations with digital tools to enhance efficiency and improve customer service. Field workers use tablets for communication, information access, and increasingly for the effective management of operational assets.

Additionally, there is a strategy to move more services to the cloud and reduce the need for inefficient in-house data centres.

As part of this journey, and as a stepping stone for further development, Scottish Water is using the 2Go solution from iNovar EMEA Limited, delivered as a SaaS solution using Amazon Web Services, to provide fully functional use of some legacy applications on mobile devices.

One such example is their use of iTools from Emerson, an IOT monitoring application, which was holding back the widespread adoption of mobile devices within their Engineering field force due to its dependence upon Windows 7 laptops and Citrix capabilities.

Further concerns around the cost of maintaining an expensive and out-of-support environment contributed to Scottish Water working with one of their SI partners to find a suitable replacement for Citrix.

“We wanted to move away from the reliance upon old, inefficient, and expensive technology and allow our customer-facing colleagues to access live asset data on mobile devices.

However, using legacy applications on modern mobile devices is a challenge – so we turned to one of our digital partners for their expertise.

They introduced us to one of their specialist partners, iNovar, who were quickly able to show us how their 2Go Universal Mobile Access solution could provide the answer.

This has rapidly progressed through a proof of concept and is now providing a secure, reliable, and familiar solution for our field colleagues.”

As a result, this large utility with nearly 2.5 million households and 150,000 business customers across Scotland, consuming 1.34 billion litres of drinking water and treating 847 million litres of wastewater per day, have now removed out of date digital platforms, through the use of 2Go Universal Mobile Access software.

This has helped create financial savings, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to improving customer service.

So what is this alternative?

2Go Universal Mobile Access is a simpler, straightforward approach which requires significantly less hardware and IT skills to implement yet still delivers the ability for users to work securely and remotely on any and all of the systems you need them to use.

What is more, the solution not only delivers remote access capability with none of the attendant issues highlighted above but could also deliver up to 75% lower TCO than Citrix or VMWare alternatives!

2Go provides a strong alternative to “the usual suspects” and to help clients understand the implications here, we’ve recently created a Comparative Analysis between 2Go and a couple of the leading vendors.

We’ve made the comparison easy with a look across a number of aspects which users have reviewed and you can access the comparison here or you can watch a brief video outlining the issues here.
